Success story · Overnight truck parking · Installed 2020

Clearer views across an overnight truck-parking yard.

An aging camera system could no longer provide useful detail across the yard. With theft—including diesel fuel theft from parked trucks—becoming a serious concern, the operator needed better visibility and a more effective way to use on-site security staff.

The challenge

The existing cameras struggled with distance.

The customer operated an overnight parking yard for commercial trucks. Its older cameras struggled to show useful detail at the far side of the property, leaving staff with limited footage when they needed to review activity around parked vehicles.

The operator reported recurring theft, including stolen diesel fuel. Rising fuel costs made those losses a particular concern. The upgrade needed to improve views of the parking areas and driveway while supporting the security staff responsible for the site.

How the project began

A referral brought the project team together.

The project came through a referral from an existing client’s family. NSI Security designed the network and supplied the surveillance and networking equipment. PC TECH SERVICES carried out the on-site installation in 2020 and provides ongoing maintenance.

The network design

Connect the camera poles to the guard’s office.

The wireless layout connects three camera poles to the mobile trailer used as the security guard’s office. The office houses an 8-channel network video recorder (NVR), bringing the camera views together at the monitoring location.

Clear views of arriving vehicles. Two cameras are mounted side by side at the office, giving security staff clear views of trucks and cars as they enter the lot.

In the supplied layout, the wireless path runs from the office to Pole 2, continues to Pole 1, and then extends to Pole 3. The camera positions combine fixed views, a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera and a panoramic view to cover different parts of the yard.

Daily monitoring

Give security staff a clearer view of the yard.

Bringing the camera views together at the trailer office helps staff monitor the driveway and parking areas from one location. Fixed cameras provide consistent views, while the PTZ camera allows an operator to adjust the view and look more closely at activity.

Recorded footage gives the business more context when reviewing suspected theft or other incidents involving parked vehicles. The camera-view image above shows the site as shared for this story; it is a daytime view of a yard used for overnight parking.

The business benefit

More efficient security coverage. Greater confidence.

The upgraded system helped reduce security-guard expenses and use security resources more efficiently. Better visibility across the yard also strengthened the business owner’s confidence in monitoring the property and responding to theft or safety concerns.

PC TECH SERVICES continues to provide maintenance, supporting the system beyond the original installation.
