Set Up Uniview Ultra Motion Detection

A simple guide for detecting people and motor vehicles while reducing unnecessary motion alerts.

WHAT IT DOES

Focus on motion that matters

Ultra Motion Detection filters motion events by two supported target types: Human Body and Motor Vehicle. Environmental movement is not a UMD target type.

Detect useful targets

Choose Human Body, Motor Vehicle, or both.

Reduce false alerts

UMD can filter motion caused by rain, falling leaves, animals, moving headlights, and similar scene activity.

Use up to four zones

Create as many as four purposeful detection areas, with sensitivity and object-type settings for each zone.

Find events faster

UMD events may appear as a colored playback line—often purple—making important recordings easier to locate.

Filtering improves accuracy but does not eliminate every false alert. Available targets, playback colors, and zone controls vary by model and firmware.

PREPARATION

Before you start

Camera is online
Confirm the correct channel has a clear live picture.

Date and time are correct
Set the time zone, DST, NTP, and camera time synchronization.

UMD is supported
Confirm the camera or recorder supports Ultra Motion Detection.

Recording is working
Check storage health and verify normal playback before changing alarms.

QUICK SETUP

Configure UMD in six steps

  1. 1

    Open the Motion menu

    From the local NVR or web interface, go to Setup › Alarm › Motion, then select the correct camera channel.

    Enable Ultra Motion Detection

    Turn Motion on, choose Ultra Motion Detection, and select Camera Side Analysis when the camera supports it. Use NVR Side Analysis only on compatible recorders.

    Draw a useful detection area

    Cover only the doorway, driveway, gate, or walkway where a person or motor vehicle should trigger an event. Keep public roads outside the area when passing vehicles are not relevant. Supported systems can provide up to four zones; keep each zone purposeful.

    Select the object types

    Choose only what the customer needs: Human Body, Motor Vehicle, or both.

  3. 5

    Set the schedule and Trigger Actions

    This step is required: detection alone does not tell the recorder what to do. Choose the arming hours and Trigger Actions, such as recording, snapshot, buzzer, email, alarm output, or push notification through the supported Uniview mobile app. Make sure the selected recording channel and event-recording schedule match the camera.

    Save and confirm

    Click Apply or Save. Reopen the menu and confirm the settings remained before testing the camera.

ULTRA MOTION DETECTION

Faster everyday setup

Use UMD when you want intelligent human and vehicle filtering across a motion area with fewer settings to configure.

Best for:

Entrances, driveways, general yards, and quick event searching.

SMART INTRUSION PREVENTION

More precise perimeter rules

Use SIP when the event depends on crossing a line or entering a specifically defined intrusion area.

Best for:

Restricted boundaries, directional crossing, and carefully controlled perimeter alerts.

TEST

Test before you depend on it

1. Walk through the area

Test the near and far edges at a normal walking speed.

2. Test a vehicle

When safe, drive through the monitored entrance or driveway.

3. Check recording and playback

Confirm the event appears in search, the full clip plays correctly, and the UMD event marker or colored playback line is visible when supported.

4. Repeat after dark

Headlights, rain, IR switching, and shadows can change detection performance.

Adjust only one setting at a time.
If events are missed, slightly increase sensitivity or improve the detection area. If false alerts occur, narrow the area or remove unnecessary object types.

COMMON PROBLEMS

Troubleshooting

Ultra Motion Detection is not listed

Confirm that the selected camera and NVR support UMD and use compatible, approved firmware. Also verify that the recorder has available smart-analysis capacity.

Events appear, but no video is recorded

Detection and recording are separate. Confirm the channel uses Motion/Event recording and that its recording schedule overlaps the UMD arming schedule.

There are too many false alerts

Narrow the detection area so it covers only the places where a person or motor vehicle should trigger an event, keep unrelated public traffic outside the zone, and lower sensitivity gradually.

Mobile notifications do not arrive

Confirm the recorder is online, notifications are enabled for the correct device and channel, and the phone allows notifications for the Uniview mobile app.
